Age Range: 8 to 10 ½ years old.
Meetings: The Cub pack meet on Wednesdays from 6.45 to 8.15pm during term time.
Location: 53-55 Purley Park Road, Purley, CR8 2BW.
Cub Scout Leader: Jennie, known as Raksha (- the mother wolf from the Jungle Book that Cubs is based around).
Leadership Team: Matt (Baghera), Richard (Shere Khan), Ben (Hathi) and Robert (Baloo)
The Cub pack is the second section in the scouting family. At 1st Purley (Princess Christian’s Own) Scout Group, Cubs will have the chance to try a vast range of different activities, including canoeing, archery, exploring, fire lighting, den building and nature detectives!
Young people generally have transitioned on from Beavers, however, we welcome boys and girls from the age of 8 to join us, it’s never too late! If you are new to 1st Purley, we welcome you to come along for a free taster meeting, where our Cub leader will have the opportunity to introduce herself, as well as introducing her team and parent helpers, who support her.
We have rota for parents and guardians,who help support the Cub leader at weekly meetings and events. Whilst parents are under no obligation to assist, their support is hugely appreciated. All leaders, volunteers and parent helpers are required to be DBS checked.
Being part of Cubs allows young people to develop practical skills like cooking and first aid, as well as developing environmental and community awareness, by helping on litter picks and collecting and sorting at the Purley Food Hub. One of the most important skills they will learn at Cubs, is the one that will make them feel confident and happy in their own skin.
The Challenge badges and Activity badges all contribute towards The Chief Scout Silver Award – which is the the highest accolade a Cub can earn.
Once Covid restrictions are lifted, Cubs hope to get involved in more activities and attend events again. This will enable Cubs to resume their annual cub camp, participate at the next Supreme Box Karts Championships and just do what Cubs do best – have fun!
