WELCOME TO 1ST PURLEY SCOUT TROOP

Age Range: Ages from 101/2 to 14.

Meetings: Our Scouts meet every Monday from 7.30pm to 9.15pm, during term time.

Location: 53-55 Purley Park Road, Purley, CR8 2BW.

Leadership Team: Alex (scout leader), with, Nicky, Eric, Richard, Rob and Emilia.

The Scout Troop is the third section in the Scouting family. Scouts is where young people make new friends, have amazing adventures, and learn new skills. Scouts will have the chance to try a vast range of different activities, such as camping, hiking, air rifle shooting, archery, cooking on fires, rafting, pioneering, canoeing, coasteering, to name but a few.

Young people generally have transitioned on from Cubs, however, we welcome girls and boys to join us. If you are new to 1st Purley, we welcome you to come along for a free taster meeting, where our Scout leader will have the opportunity to introduce himself, as well as the rest of the team.

Being part of Scouts really does allow young people to develop Skills for life, practical skills like map reading and cooking, as well as leadership and teamwork. Scouts will get to:

  • Master new skills and try new things
  • Make new friends
  • Have fun and go on adventures, at home and abroad
  • Explore the world around them
  • Help others and make a difference, in their own communities and beyond

More information on Scouts, who we are and what we do can be found here!

The 1st Purley are an active troop, taking part in a wide range of activities and events, there are typically around 5-6 overnight events (each ranging from one to seven nights) throughout the year, some are indoors but most are camping. The Troop is active in Scouts District and County events and competitions which allow the young people to appreciate they are part of something much bigger than just the 1st Purley.

There are opportunities for Scouts to have international experiences, again we have a good record of Scouts undertaking these, including at worldwide Jamborees.

Scouts do work towards their Challenge and Activity badges and the 1st Purley has a good record of Scouts achieving the highest award that is possible, the Chief Scout’s Gold Award.

We are pleased, that many of our ex-scouts are often still active in scouting, staying on to become young leaders in the various sections, or by moving up to Explorers. We have good links with local Explorer Units.

How to Join: Complete the form on our Contact Page or email us directly at 1stpurley@gmail.com and we will be in touch.

We look forward to hearing from you!
